Getting around Ireland can be expensive, but as a student, you’re entitled to a huge discount. The Student Leap Card is a reusable smart card that gives you 50% off adult fares on most public transport. It’s an essential tool for any student, especially those on a Stamp 2 visa, as it can save you a significant amount of money.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about getting and using your card.

Who Can Get a Student Leap Card?

The Student Leap Card is available to full-time students in third-level education who are either 16-18 years old or 26 and above.
For students on a Work & Study program (Stamp 2 visa), you must apply for the Student Leap Card. The key is to prove you’re a full-time student.

What You’ll Need to Apply

Before you start your online application, have these documents ready:

  • Proof of age: A passport or another valid ID.
  • Proof of student status: An official letter from your college on headed paper. This letter must state that your course is full-time and has a duration of more than six months. A valid student card with this information also works.
  • An official photo of yourself to be used on the card.
  • A debit or credit card to pay the €10 application fee.

*Important Note on the €10 Fee: This payment is composed of a €5 refundable deposit for the card and €5 in pre-loaded travel credit. The €5 travel credit is immediately available for you to use.
